Locations in 19 nineteen counties will benefit from a €9million fund aimed at enhancing outdoor dining suitable for the Irish climate.
Fáilte Ireland announced 38 locations across the country for permanent structures for hospitality outlets to share.
Paul Kelly, CEO of Fáilte Ireland, said this is a “permanent positive legacy from Covid that we will have enhanced outdoor dining across Ireland”.
The locations that will benefit from the scheme were announced at an event in Howth in north Dublin this afternoon.
The seaside village is one of the locations to receive funding along with Bantry, Co Cork, Castlebar, Co Mayo, and Bundoran, Co Donegal.
All locations are subject to planning permission and each local authority can apply for €200,000 for up to two locations, with additional funding being made available subject to the quality and economic value of the proposals.
Mr Kelly said: “These structures are designed with full understanding of what the climate is.”
He said that with the right roofing, shelter and heating, it is possible to have a very pleasant outdoor dining experience for longer in the season.
The Outdoor Dining Enhancement Scheme is a €17million scheme announced in March 2021 made up of two parts.
The first allowed applicants to apply for a grant of up to €4,000 for outdoor furniture with a closing date of the 30 September.
The Minister for Tourism, Catherine Martin, said: “The aim of this Scheme is to support tourism and hospitality jobs and help businesses develop new ways of catering for domestic and international tourists outdoors”.
