A year after launching the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in Bengaluru on April 29, 2022, the network on Sunday (April 30, 2023) clocked 11,100 retail orders, its highest so far per day.

In April 2022, the network alpha launched in five cities – Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Shillong, Bhopal and Coimbatore and has since expanded to more than 240 cities and towns in the alpha stage.

ONDC chief executive Thampy Koshy said, “Around 40% of the retail orders are from Bengaluru and another 40% are coming from cities like Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Meerut and Pune. ONDC has enabled 95 farmer producer organisations with the support of Small Farmers’ Agri Business Consortium (SFAC) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and more than 400 are in the process of onboarding. This will help the consumers to buy products like pure honey, saffron, millets etc straight from the source.”

ONDC went beta live in some pin codes of Bengaluru on September 30, and has since expanded across Bengaluru and added Meerut to the beta phase. With the efforts of merchants and network participants, ONDC is witnessing accelerated adoption and aims to continue building its momentum.

In the last couple of months, ONDC has also enabled fashion, beauty and personal care, home and kitchen and electronics segments, with new merchants and brands in the process of joining the network.

Some key takeaways:

■ Apart from the 11,100 retail orders, more than 26,800 daily mobility transactions were facilitated by ONDC on the same day.

■ Craftsvilla, IDFC, Kotak, Magicpin and Meesho count among buyer apps live on the network among others.

■ In the last one year, ONDC has enabled the onboarding of more than 35,000 retailers primarily in food (restaurants), and groceries, as well as more than 58,000 mobility merchants (drivers).

■ As many as 46 network participants are live on the network as of today, of which 12 are buyers, 27 are seller-side aggregators, and seven are hyperlocal as well as national logistics service providers, while more than 400 network participants are undergoing technical integration.

■ Alpino, Bitlsila, Bizom, BoAt, Delhivery, and Digiit, are some of the seller apps live on the network among many others.

■ The logistics service providers that are live on the network are Dunzo, eKart, Grab, Loadshare, Shadowfax, and Shiprocket.
