Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday asked the country’s youth to grow into worthy citizens by acquiring adequate education and technological knowledge as the fourth industrial revolution edges ever closer.

“The youth is the most important [segment of populace] for any nation. I want them to become worthy citizens …,” she said at an event marking the distribution of Sheikh Hasina Youth Volunteer Award 2022 in the capital’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

The event was organised by the youth and sports ministry, and the PM joined it virtually.

She further said the government has taken steps to ensure the young generations  are ready for the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”, which will mostly be technology-based.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is a way of describing the blurring of boundaries between the physical, digital, and biological worlds. It’s a fusion of advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, the Internet of Things, 3D printing, genetic engineering, quantum computing, and other technologies.

Hasina described the young people as “the builders” of the nation’s future as a developed country by 2041, adding that many countries are suffering from a lack of the youth demographic in their population.

Hasina greeted the awardees for their contribution to their respective fields, involving training and education to the grassroots.

“I’m very happy to see the young ones standing beside the grassroots people, imparting knowledge to them and creating employment for the masses.”

She added that the government has taken every possible step, including ones for proper education and employment, for the development of the youth.

She added that along with the many employment opportunities in the banking, insurance and entertainment sectors, her government has also established the Probashi Kallyan Bank so that young people going abroad with jobs can take out easy loans and thus save their ancestral land and other assets.

Loans are also being provided by Karmasangsthan Bank, without any guarantee, so they can become entrepreneurs and generate employment for others.

The PM said various government schemes are in place to give loans so that the youth can stand on their own and help the country become economically stronger.

Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, state minister for youth and sports, and its secretary Mesbah Uddin; and Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, chairman of the ministry’s parliamentary standing committee, also spoke at the programme.
