Synopsis

Covid-19 ran amok regardless of geographic borders, but nations across the globe made a concerted push to contain the disease by participating in the development of vaccines. Even as a handful of vaccine projects are inching towards their goals, issues of access and pricing of the final products could become a cause of rift among countries.

“No one is safe until everyone is safe.” In that one pithy sentence, the World Health Organization (WHO) captures the urgency and the monumental task of dealing with the pandemic. It is a call to action — to band the multiple stakeholders, including international health agencies, scientists, and civil society, into one unit and crank up the innovation engine to fight the virus. As of now, hope rests on a handful of vaccines being developed.
