All civil works of upcoming international airport at Halwara likely to be completed by July, says Punjab minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, ET Infra

LUDHIANA: Punjab Cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Sunday claimed that the construction of the upcoming international airport at Halwara was likely to be completed by July 2023.

He added that the tenders of all construction works have already been allotted by the Public Works Department (PWD).

He made the comment while inspecting the ongoing construction work of the airport at Halwara.

While addressing a gathering, the cabinet minister said that civil works amounting to Rs 46.91 crore had already been started.

The works include the construction of internal roads, taxiway, apron, estate public health services, campus lighting interim airport, construction of the terminal building, substation, toilet block, parking, etc is also under construction.

Listing Halwara Airport as an “ambitious project” of chief minister Bhagwant Mann, the Cabinet minister said that “every effort” was being made to start the flights as soon as possible from this project which will pave way for the holistic development of the region, besides it would also help the industry in Ludhiana and other adjoining districts by a large extent.

The cabinet minister said the upcoming airport was a full-fledged airport with a runway on which wide-bodied aircraft can land.

He said even Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann was taking keen “interest” in the project, adding that in January this year, the chief minister himself had also inspected the ongoing work at Civil Air terminal Halwara and asked the officers to expedite the work so that it is completed at the earliest.

Harbhajan Singh ETO further stated that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has recently passed a resolution to request the Centre to name the airport at Indian Air Force Station Halwara in Ludhiana as ‘Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha International Airport’.
