MOHALI: Mohali deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the railway ministry, urging them to re-route Vande Bharat Express, which will start from Delhi to Amritsar from January 1, 2024, via Mohali.

A copy of this letter has also been sent to Manish Tiwari, MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Bedi said according to the information, the Vande Bharat Express train will complete the journey of about 450 km between Amritsar and New Delhi in about five hours. At present, it has stops at Ambala and Ludhiana.

He said the railway station of Mohali city is very old, but very few trains come here. He said now when the Vande Bharat is going to start, it can be routed via Chandigarh and another stop can be given at Mohali. He said this will greatly facilitate the people of Mohali, Chandigarh and nearby areas.

He said since this train is going to Amritsar, devotees in the Tricity will have the opportunity to avail the service to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple.

At present, two trains connect Mohali with the holy city of Amritsar. While one departs in the morning and another departs in the evening. Apart from these, trains like Jan Shatabdi to Una, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Express and Ferozepur Express have halts at Mohali.
