Bhogapuram Airport Stone-laying On May 3, Infra News, ET Infra

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay foundation stone for Greenfield International Airport in Bhogapuram on May 3. Union minister for civil aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia is likely to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony.

Minister for industries Gudivada Amarnath said the airport would be ready for operations within 24 months.

The airport is coming up on 2,200 acres. The state government will lay a 20-km-long, six-lane beach corridor road from Bheemili to Bhogapuram.

“Once the airport starts operations and six-lane beach road gets ready, then Vizianagaram will be transformed,” said Amarnath. The airport is likely to handle 1.8 crore passengers per annum.

The airport will be constructed in three phases. The airport would cater to the needs of around 6 million passengers in the first phase at an estimated cost of 5,000 crore and seven air bridges will be developed along with a passenger terminal, MRO unit for aircraft maintenance and repairs, aviation academy, cargo complex and others.

In the second phase, it would be developed to accommodate another 1.2 crore passengers.

The airport is designed to have 22 air bridges to accommodate 22 aircraft at a time.
