Now is the time to make your closets clutter-free, as the fall textile collection is set to take place the week of Oct. 3 in Kawartha Lakes.

Get rid of your old, ripped or stained clothing, including outerwear, shoes, linens and stuffed animals, by simply placing them in clear plastic bags and putting them on your curb for pickup by Recycling Rewards. Anyone interested in textile pickup must phone ahead to confirm their address by calling 1-866-927-3873 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. no later than Sept. 30.

Collection will be done on Oct. 3 for residents with Thursday waste collection, Oct. 4 for residents with Monday waste collection, Oct. 5 for residents with waste collection on Tuesdays and Oct. 6 for those whose waste is collected on Wednesdays.

Reusable textiles will go to Talize Thrift Store to be sold or redistributed, whereas textiles that are unusable will be recycled to make upholstery, stuffing or rags. Textiles that can’t be reused or recycled will go to the landfill.

Textiles can always be dropped off at one of the five Kawartha Lakes landfill locations, as long as they are in a clear bag and not mixed with other recyclables.

Questions about textiles items can be directed to recycle@kawarthalakes.ca.
