A 22-month-old child died Friday afternoon in an east Harris County car crash in which a cement truck landed on top of a vehicle, officials said.

Deputies responded shortly before 3 p.m. to a major crash at the intersection of Woodforest Boulevard and East Sam Houston Parkway near Cloverleaf, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez

“It appears a cement truck traveling on the main lanes lost control, went over the overpass and landed on top of a vehicle with four occupants,” the sheriff said.

Three people were able to get out of the vehicle, according to Gonzalez, but the 22-month-old child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities shut down the intersection and told drivers to seek alternate routes.
