LUDHIANA: Civic officials have issued a notice to the contractor handling the Pakhowal Road railway overbridge /railway underbridge for delay in completion of the project.
They have also asked him to complete the work as soon as possible. Recently, Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu held a Smart City Advisory Committee meeting, during which the issue was raised. The MP sought an explanation from officials responsible for delay in work but they did not give a satisfactory reply.
After the MC commissioner asked officials to impose a penalty on the contractor, the MC issued the notice. MP Bittu had taken strict cognisance of delay of the Pakhowal Road ROB/RUB project and he warned that action would be taken against errant officials. Calling for timely completion of the project in public interest, the MP said that he would get an inquiry conducted side by side, without getting the work affected.
Work order for the project was issued on June 18, 2019. According to the agreement, it was expected to be completed by September 18, 2021. However, the last deadline for the project was fixed for December 31, 2022. The project was delayed due to official delay in finalising changes in design. One side of the project is complete and is in use.
Residents even organised a prayer meeting for completion of the project. Civic officials have been receiving request letters from various officials about difficulties due to delay in the project.
