NEW DELHI: The Delhi government’s ambitious ‘Dilli Bazaar’ e-commerce platform, which will bring the city’s markets online, is likely to go live soon.

According to officials, the portal will go live with nearly 10,000 vendors and the number is likely to touch one lakh in the next six months. They added that the government may offer incentives to the sellers to join the 24×7 digital storefront, a part of which may be transferred to the customers in the form of products available at cheaper prices to attract them to the portal.

Dilli Bazaar was announced in the Rozgar budget last year as a digital platform to help local sellers reach a larger customer base worldwide. According to officials, it will be the country’s first such portal where all the city’s markets will be brought on a single platform and presented to the world. Every trader and retailer will be able to display and sell their products anywhere in the world through the online shopping portal.

The Dilli Bazaar portal will have a team that will go to the markets and take care of complete branding solutions. “Due to the zero setup cost conceptualised for the platform, the products available on the portal will be cheaper than the price e-commerce companies sell them at,” said an official.

The portal, said officials, will work on the Open Network for Digital Commerce platform where a particular product offered by a particular shop if available on other portals, will be visible simultaneously.

The buyer will have a choice from which portal he wishes to buy the product depending on price and logistical support.

“This provision will help the shopkeepers of Delhi get a digital presence not just on the Dilli Bazaar portal but on various e-commerce portals opening a wide horizon of opportunities for them,” said an official.

The search engine will give customers the option to look for a particular store by browsing through the market or by the name of the store. “If a customer wants to buy terracotta pots from a shop in Lajpat Nagar, they can log on to the Dilli Bazaar portal and search for the shops in that area. They will then receive a list of all the shops selling pots in the local market,” said an official.

The portal will also serve as a repository of verified Delhi sellers with comprehensive product catalogues.
