Depression forms over Bay of Bengal; warning issued for all ports in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A well marked low pressure today intensified into Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.

According to the IMD, the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and north Odisha coasts lies centered about 10 km southeast of Digha (West Bengal) and 90 km eastnortheast of Balasore (Odisha). It is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coasts close to Digha during next 6 hours.

Under influence of the Depression over the Bay, warning has been issued for all ports in Odisha.

The IMD has issued danger warning (signal No.3) for Gopalpur, Puri, Paradip, Dhamra and Chandbali ports for today.

The regional meteorological centre of IMD issued red warning for 10 districts, orange warning for 11 districts and yellow warning for 9 districts of Odisha for today.

Red warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls (>20cm) very likely to occur over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Deogarh.

Orange warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
