Bringing the training on conduction drone operations in manifold, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced to recognise and certify the ASAP Kerala’s drone pilot training programme.

The new-age technology course is conducted by the Kerala authorities under the state government’s Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP). The move also makes ASAP Kerala as the sole agency in the state to provide such training.

The DGCA approval comes following a thorough evaluation process. Under the new programme, ASAP Kerala will conduct a comprehensive 96-hour executive training in Small Category Drone Piloting Course. The course will be completed in 16 days including a five-day DGCA licensing programme.

According to DGCA, the training programme will cover the entire drone technology, including 3D mapping, UAV surveying, UAV assembly and programming, and aerial cinematography.

The ASAP meanwhile maintained that the growth of drone technology is expected to create over 80,000 new job opportunities. Now with the DGCA-certification will not just draw more and more talent towards the sector but will also standardise the training process. The ASAP course is open to all individuals above the age of 18 who have completed their 10th-grade education and possess a passport.

The course fee will be Rs 42,952, with skill loan facility. After successfully completing the programme the individual will be granted legal authorisation to operate drones in India and overseas.

As per government estimates the drone sector in India is projected to generate a revenue of Rs 12,000-15,000 crore by 2026, which will be a significant jump as compared to present Rs 80-100 crore revenues.

The Union government last year announced key reforms in the sector while outlining new guidelines for drone regulations in India. Among the key changes also include the removal of the necessity remote pilot certificate programme for flying small to medium-sized drones weighing up to 2 kg for non-commercial use.
