Madurai/Trichy: Education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has urged parents not to compare their wards with other children over marks and traumatize them. Speaking after inaugurating skill development training for officials here on Wednesday, Poyyamozhi, expressed anguish over students dying by suicide after Class XII and X results. The education department has appointed counsellors in schools to guide the children. There are also helpline numbers like 14417 and 1098 to counsel children. Repeaters for the failed students are held in July, he said.
He also warned that stringent action will be taken against those selling the government’s kits for school students. The government has identified more than 10,000 dilapidated buildings in government schools to be replaced with new ones. All HS and high schools are provided with laboratories and the government is also roping in corporates to create infrastructure in schools under CSR funds.
Later, at a felicitation in Trichy, he said steps will be taken to begin the process of constructing classrooms wherever existing structures were found unfit to use, before August 15.
