The charges were laid against the man at the conclusion of a Chatham police traffic management unit investigation.

Emergency crews responded to a serious motor-vehicle collision between a cement truck and an SUV on Queen’s Line near the Highway 401 access ramp on Aug. 16, just before 7:30 a.m.

Police said the cement truck was travelling west, approaching the 401 access ramp, when the vehicle veered into the opposite lane, striking the eastbound SUV and sending the vehicle spinning into the south side ditch. The cement truck continued south through a ditch before coming to a stop in a cornfield, police added.

The woman was extricated from the SUV and airlifted to hospital, where she later died, police said.

The driver of the cement truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

The accused is required to attend court on Nov. 14.
