E-challans to be issued for overspeeding on highways, Infra News, ET Infra

LUDHIANA: Traffic police is all set to start automatic e-challaning at the newly-constructed elevated flyover and Ladhowal bypass to check overspeeding. Traffic police officials have written to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), requesting them to get cameras installed at both stretches.

Recently, the elevated flyover on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road was opened for the public. Ladhowal bypass towards South City road is already functioning. Traffic police have observed that overspeeding is an issue on both flyovers.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) – Traffic Sameer Verma said, “The issue of overspeeding on both stretches is in our knowledge. Signboards of 60 kmph speed limit have been installed for commuters. However, for enforcement, we have planned to get automated e- challan cameras installed there.” The ADCP added that such cameras have been installed at various highways and expressways across the country. “They will capture registration number plates of overspeeding vehicles and an e-challan will be issued to the vehicle owner. We have verbally discussed this project with NHAI officials who agreed to get it done. We have written to NHAI and work may start by November,” he said.

Ludhiana police have been active against people overspeeding on city roads. From March to September this year, traffic police issued over 2,100 challans for overspeeding.
