License to carry class: The city of Hunters Creek Village is hosting a license-to-carry class at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Hunters Creek Village City Hall at #1 Hunters Creek Place. In this class, information on Texas gun laws, basic safety and some basic use procedures will be presented. For reservations email Randy (usually fills up fast) rcw@dynamicdefense.solutions. The class is $75 cash or check at the door. A date will be set for shooter qualification.

Jack Carr at Memorial City: No. 1 New York Times best-selling author Jack Carr is coming to Memorial City Mall to discuss his newest release, “In the Blood.” The event is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. at Dillard’s Court at Memorial City Mall, 303 Memorial City. Carr will be interviewed by Freddy Cruz, host of Freddy’s Huge ASK podcast. The interview will begin at 1 p.m. in the Memorial City Mall at the Dillard’s Court. This interview will be free and open to the public. Following the interview, Jack Carr will autograph pre-purchased books from Murder by the Book at www.murderbooks.com/Carr-Signing. ‘Strike Out’ Autism: Together with Presenting Sponsor Fred and Mabel R. Parks Foundation, Hope For Three will host their 2022 Grand Slam Event of the year, “Strike Out” Autism on May 22 at Constellation Field. The Family Fun Day is an afternoon full of autism awareness, smiles, laughter and acceptance for more than 100 local families living with autism. Parents, siblings and children on the autism spectrum will feel like MVPs for the day and must register now because of limited availability. Memorial Day: Most city and government services will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. Emergency services will not be affected.

Memorial Day tribute: In tribute to those service members who paid the ultimate price for freedom, Commissioners Tom S. Ramsey and R. Jack Cagle invite the public to join them at their 2022 Memorial Day Ceremony at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30, at the war memorial at Bear Creek Park, 3535 War Memorial St., Houston. The commemoration will include guest speakers, a wreath ceremony, a 21-gun salute, Taps, and a flag ceremony, as well as patriotic musical performances – including the national anthem and “America the Beautiful.” The war memorial at Bear Creek Park was built in 1985 to honor Harris County residents who lost their lives in military service to the United States. Looking for Vendors: Vendors are being sought for the 18th Annual Wallis Legion Craft Show on Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion Hall Post 200, 330 Legion Road in Wallis. more than 35 vendors offering a wide variety of handmade crafts and canned goods. The Legion will be selling hamburgers and barbecue sandwiches for lunch each day and the Ladies Auxiliary will have a bake sale. Admission is $1 for hourly door prizes.
