For more than two decades, Mr. Campbell has championed the use of renewable energy, hydrogen and fuel cells to positively address the challenges of climate change, pollution and energy security.

His role at Ballard included global business development, sales and marketing, product line management and customer service for the key energy product markets – heavy-duty vehicle, material handling and stationary energy.

Prior to joining Ballard, Mr. Campbell was President and CEO of SoloPower Systems Inc. and previously held Vice President positions at Energy Conversion Devices and Solar Integrated Technologies and at Hydrogenics, a manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cell and electrolyzer products.

Having assumed a directorship at First Hydrogen in January this year, Mr. Campbell is now joining the company as Energy CEO. He will be responsible for the development of green hydrogen production sites and fuel distribution systems, critical elements within First Hydrogen’s total hydrogen mobility solution.

The company’s “Hydrogen-as-a-Service” model will provide customers with clean, green hydrogen fuel, refueling technology and zero-emission commercial vehicles to accelerate the creation of zero-emission ecosystem solutions.

Mr. Campbell is a licensed professional engineer from the Professional Engineers Association of Ontario and holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Queen’s University and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from York University’s Schulich School of Business.

Along with his extensive knowledge of high growth markets and sales of engineering capital goods, Rob’s experience will guide the delivery of the company’s first green hydrogen production facilities and hydrogen fueling stations, which are being developed together with the FEV Consulting Group.

Later this year, First Hydrogen Automotive will introduce two hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles (LCVs) with Ballard fuel cells. Mr. Campbell will help build the necessary infrastructure to enable fleet operators to adopt zero-emission, hydrogen-powered vehicles.

Rob Campbell, Director and CEO of First Hydrogen Energy comments:

As a company spanning both the energy and automotive industries, First Hydrogen is pioneering a new approach to working with commercial vehicle customers.

“I am honored to join First Hydrogen at such an exciting time in its business growth. The company has made significant strides Progress in rapid succession and now is the time to ramp up activities on the energy side to provide a fully green and sustainable solution.”

“I look forward to building First Hydrogen’s energy division, expanding our team and working towards our goal: a guaranteed supply of green hydrogen fuel and the means to distribute it. I have long believed in the potential of hydrogen fuel in the global race to eliminate fossil fuels, and I am excited to accelerate us toward a zero-emissions future.”

Balraj Mann, CEO, says:

I am delighted to welcome Rob to First Hydrogen’s growing world-class team.

“Rob brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise from years of helping the world decarbonize. Green hydrogen as a clean fuel source is becoming increasingly important. Just last week, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer agreed on a US tax and climate bill that would provide generous tax credits that make green hydrogen production cheaper.

The UK announced Jane Toogood as Hydrogen Champion to kickstart the UK’s green hydrogen industry as it moves away from natural gas.”
