Flipkart joins hands with govt of Gujarat to support local artisans, MSMEs, ET Retail


New Delhi: E-commerce platform Flipkart has partnered with the government of Gujarat on the National Handloom Day through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commissioner of Cottage & Rural Industries, government of Gujarat, under the Flipkart Samarth program, the company said in a media release.

The collaboration aims to digitalize local businesses, focusing on the development of crafts in every district and making concerted efforts to revive struggling crafts within the state, as per a statement in the release.

“This MoU signifies a significant stride in our commitment to empower and uplift talented local artisans, weavers, and small businesses across our state. E-commerce will empower them to showcase their products to a wider audience,” said Balvantsinh Rajput, Minister – Industries, Micro, Small and Medium Industries, Cottage, Khadi and Rural Industries, Civil Aviation, Labour and Employment.

Rajneesh Kumar, chief corporate affairs officer at Flipkart Group, said, “Through our Flipkart Samarth initiative, we have significantly augmented the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission by positively influencing the livelihoods of more than a million artisans, weavers, and craftsmen all over India.”
