James Pozzi

CFM International

Leading the market with a 44% overall share is CFM International, manufacturer of the CFM56 engine – the world’s most popular engine type. In 2021, it is estimated that more than 20,000 units are in-service.

GE Aviation

Second is GE Aviation, with a market share of 23% in 2021. Helping its market share is the CF34, an option for several regional and business aircraft including Bombardier’s CRJ, Embraer E-Jet and the Chinese-made ARJ21. In the widebody segment, the CF6 and GE90 also account for nearly 5,000 engine units between them.

Pratt & Whitney Canada

With its PW100 engine dominating the tubroprop segment, Pratt & Whitney Canada is the third largest engine manufacturer this year by market share. Aviation Week estimates a 12% share of the market with nearly 7,000 engines in-service.

Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce specializes in widebody engines in the commercial space. Overall, it has an 11% of the commercial market with its Trent engines having nearly 4,000 units in-service in 2021.

International Aero Engines

IAE’s V2500 is the second most popular narowbody engine on the market and drives the company’s overall share in the segment. Aviation Week estimates IAE holds a 10% share.
