Under the terms of the MoU, both parties have entered into an exclusive period during which time they will continue to carry out due diligence and work towards signing the concession agreement.
The signing of the agreement – estimated to occur in the first half of 2023 – is subject to bilateral agreement on the final terms.
Berth expansion for handling of Oasis-class ships planned
Following the execution of the concession agreement, Global Ports will take responsibility for managing port operations related to cruising in St Lucia. In addition, it will invest in a material upgrade of the cruise port facilities – including the expansion of the existing berth in Point Seraphine which will allow the handling of Oasis-class ships – plus transform the retail experience, including through the redevelopment of the Vendor’s Arcade and other facilities at Castries.
Improvements at Fisherman’s Village
GPH states it is committed to improving the passenger experience in St Lucia and to encouraging significant economic benefits for local residents by improving facilities in and around the port, such as Fisherman’s Village, and driving increased passenger spend in the destination.
Passengers in St Lucia
St Lucia received approximately 790,000 passengers in 2019; the completion of the extended pier and upgrade of the facilities are expected to lead to a rise in passenger volumes to over 1m in the medium term.
