GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government on Sunday announced the formation of the Becharaji Area Development Authority with the aim of accelerating growth of religious and economic activities in and around Becharaji, a well known Shaktipeeth pilgrimage site in north Gujarat.
About 825 hectares of Becharaji and its surrounding areas including Shankhalpur, Kalri, Ganeshpura, Pratapgarh, Finchdi, Dedana and Edala, villages have been included in the authority. Along with the ancient shrine of Bahuchar Mata, Shankhalpur Tirth, Vallabh Bhatt Vav, Mandal-Becharaji SIR will receive focussed development in infrastructure. The Mandal Becharaji SIR has a Maruti Suzuki plant and about 30 smaller units.
The newly constituted Becharaji Area Development Authority will prepare a development plan under the Gujarat Town Planning and Urban Development Act, 1976. Subsequently, infrastructure facilities such as roads, streetlights, gardens, drainage will be provided. The Mehsana district collector has been appointed chairperson of the authority.
The other members of the authority are chief town planner, president of Mehsana district panchayat, Mehsana DDO, regional municipal commissioner, Gandhinagar. Additional resident collector of Mehsana district will be the member secretary of the authority. A provision has also been made to include four locally elected members as part of the authority to represent matters related to the area’s development.
