HDMC will take over Smart City projects only after detailed reports

HUBBALLI: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) will take over the completed Smart City Project only after a team of experts has gathered detailed reports on quality and other matters. Among these more than 15 projects were dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

In a circular by the commissioner, HDMC informed about the constitution of an expert committee comprising four members. It instructed the experts’ team to submit the report, despite reminders that the team was yet to meet.

In order to coordinate with HDC officials and the special expert team, HDMC has appointed a coordinator to the special committee constituted by HDMC. HDSCL has carried out 62 various projects in Hubballi, completed 53 projects and 9 are under construction.

Iresh Anchtageri, Mayor, HDMC, says despite several reminders the officials of HDSCL have not even bothered to respond to the letter written by HDMC on the formation of an expert committee and the report on all development works under the Smart City Project. A coordinator official was appointed who would help the special committee submit the report on the development works before it is handed over.

When asked about the projects dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently during his visit to Dharwad, Anchtageri said that in two months Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated a total of 15 Smart City Projects including Tolankere Lake, Unkal Market, Nehru Stadium, and various Smart Roads. The HDMC sent a letter to HDSCL, but HDSCL didn’t take it seriously and failed to furnish details of the development works to the special experts’ team, he added. He also added that without a detailed report on quality and others, the HDMC would not complete the handover process. “If required, I will write a letter to the competent authorities pertaining to HDSCL officials’ negligence,” he said.

According to sources, on March 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 16 new projects. They are: Redevelopment of Tolankere lake at a cost of Rs 25.74 crore; basic services for Urban Poor Package-01 at a cost of Rs 31.14 crore; redevelopment of Unkal Market at a cost of Rs 2.03 crore; Smart Road Package-05 at Rs 31.39 crore; Integrated Command and Control Center at Rs 51.31 crore; Public Bicycle Sharing (34 PBS stations) at a cost of Rs 8.50 crore; swimming pool phase-02 at a cost of Rs 3.88 cr; Vani Vilas development at a cost of Rs 15 crore; smart road package-02 at a cost of Rs 47.92 crore; smart roads package-06 at Rs 37.71 crore; design and construction of entrance gate at KIMS hospital at Rs 0.31 crore; upgradation of Chitaguppi hospital at Rs 24.41 crore; redevelopment of Nehru Stadium at Rs 25.35 crore; digital display board at Rs 4.17 crore and finally, Smart Road Package-03 at Rs 45 crore.
