VASCO: The industries located in the Verna Industrial Estate are struggling for basic infrastructure like roads, water and electricity.

According to Verna Industries Association (VIA) president Pradeep Da Costa, despite several assurances by the government, nothing has changed. He said that for the last few years, the Association has been requesting the government to provide better infrastructure in Verna but the issues have remained the same.

“We are struggling with the basic infrastructure like roads, water and electricity.  These are the major issues which the government had assured to improve but nothing has happened till date,” said Da Costa.

He further said that the Association had submitted letters to the officials of the Goa industrial development Corporation (GIDC) explaining the situation of the power sub-station at Verna which caters not only to Verma Industrial estate but entire Mormugao taluka. This infrastructure is around 20 years old and is operating at 80 per cent efficiency and operating at 100 per cent.

Da Costa said that the GIDC auctioning land earlier allotted to SEZ developers, many new industries are expected to start its operations and then the issue of electricity supply will come up. The existing electricity sub-station is below standards and GIDC was yet to install new transformer. But nothing has happened till date, he said.
