Himachal Governor stresses integrated medical education

Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has emphasised on integrated medical education that includes allopathy, homeopathy and ayurveda.

“In today’s era, apart from allopathy, the importance of other traditional medical methods cannot be ruled out,” he added.

He said this while inaugurating a three-day conference of Fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (FIAGES) at Atal Auditorium of Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla, on Friday.

Arlekar said our traditional medical system is dates back to thousands of years, and can help improve the treatment techniques of the modern days. Integrated medical techniques can serve mankind in a better way.

He urged all the experts to think in this direction and keep all the doors open for discussion. The Governor told them, “All of you are experts in your respective fields, and I hope that deliberations and discussions in this three-day conference would go a long way in benefitting the budding surgeons, and they will be in a better position to help the common masses.”

The Governor lauded the efforts of FIAGES and congratulated the organisers for the event. “The conference would train many delegates in the basic laparoscopic skills by conducting a fellowship course. Through these academic activities and training sessions’ surgeons, especially young surgeons would be benefitted by learning new skills and increasing their knowledge,” he said.

Earlier, the Governor released the souvenir of FIAGES.

Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES), President, Dr. LP Thangavelu, dwelt on the activities of the association and said that IAGES is the premium organisation of India and the largest in the world, with more than ten thousand members.

He said the association also conducts various online programs for young surgeons and encourages them by giving cash prizes. He said the conference was being attended by more than two hundred delegates from all over the nation.
