Home textile makers demand subsidy on additional cost

[ad_1]

Home textile makers on Sunday claimed that the fuel price hike would increase their production cost by Tk 75 crore a month and demanded that the government give 50 per cent of the additional cost as subsidy.

The Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association in this regard issued a press release that was signed by the association’s chairman M Sahadat Hossain.

According to the press release, its monthly production volume is around $ 175 million of which 90 per cent is its production cost.

The fuel price crisis will add around $ 7 to 8 million additional expenses to their production costs, it said.

Such a crisis might impact the industry badly if the government delays taking steps to resolve the issue, said the press release.

The government on Friday revised the prices of all fuel oils at the consumer level.

The prices of diesel and kerosene were raised by 42.5 per cent to Tk 114 a litre from Tk 80, while the price of petrol was raised by 51.16 per cent to Tk 130 a litre from Tk 86.

The price of octane was raised by 51.68 per cent to Tk 135 a litre from Tk 89.
