Indian Railways-arm DFCCIL to develop mega multimodal logistics park in Kanpur

Lucknow, India (Urban Transport News): In a major boost to the UP’s economy, the Indian Railways-arm Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is planning to develop a multimodal logistics park in Kanpur for cargo handling. This would be the fourth such mega logistic park in UP, but the first to be developed by DFCCIL.

“In two years UP will have a multimodal logistics park, 20 km from Kanpur city near Rooma railway station. It would be the fourth logistical hub in the state for cargo movement—the other three are in Dadri, including one developed by Container Corporation of India Limited and two to be developed by National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited and Adani group,” said Srinivas Nanduri, director, operations and business development, DFCCIL at InnoRail exhibition at RDSO Complex, Lucknow, TOI reported.

According to Nanduri, DFCCIL has procured 70-hectare land in Hathipur, Maharajpur and Tilsaharibujurg villages in Narval tehsil of Kanpur Nagar. “After the construction of the hub, we expect that 15 million tonnes of goods will be handled annually,” he added. Meanwhile, the six-lane, 63-km Lucknow-Kanpur greenfield expressway is also expected to be completed by mid-2024.

“Mega logistic hub will reduce the transportation cost giving competitive edge to Indian products. The logistic hub at Kanpur will also boost the UP government’s one district one product initiative,” Srinivas said. The Kanpur logistics park is part of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor which connects Ludhiana to Sonnagar.

In October 2022, DFCCIL has issued a tender calling Expression of Interests (EOIs) from the logistics service providers, real estate developers, third party logistics players, warehousing investors, container train operators, financial institutions, industrial houses etc. for construction, development and operation of multimodal logistics park in DFCCIL land at new Kanpur (EDFC) under PM-Gati Shakti Policy through private investment.

With the objective to develop inter-connected infrastructure through private investment, DFCCIL has envisaged to establish a Multimodal Logistics Park (MMLP) on DFCCIL land at New Kanpur along the EDFC corridor, which can provide the required infrastructure to handle various categories of cargo.

“It is expected that proposed Multimodal Logistics Park will be an integrated logistics facility at Kanpur along EDFC, which would help in reducing the overall logistics cost in the supply chain for the customers, duly leveraging the modern, efficient, high-capacity rail connectivity of the DFCs capable of meeting time-sensitive freight transportation requirement,” said EOI notice.

The last date for submission of EOI documents was 31st October 2022.
