JAMMU: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway and Mughal road are closed due to mudslides and heavy snowfall in high-altitude areas, causing disruptions in vehicular movement.

The closure is attributed to mudslides at Mehar area in Ramban and heavy snowfall.

Commuters are advised against travel until restoration is complete, with over 200 vehicles stranded along the route.

The Mughal road, connecting Poonch, Rajouri, and Shopian, remains closed for the second day due to snowfall between Poshana and Peer Ki Gali.

Snowfall has been reported in the upper reaches of various districts, including Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Kathua.

The Banihal town witnessed the season’s first snowfall. Heavy rainfall in the plains of the Jammu region triggered cold conditions, breaking a month-long dry spell in Jammu city. The Meteorological Department anticipates an improvement in weather conditions later in the day.
