[ad_1]

At Oak Ridge's Juneteenth festival last year in the historic Scarboro Community, some participants wore matching Juneteenth T-shirts with the date 1865, which is when the news of the end to slavery got to Texas.

Oak Ridge and Clinton both have events coming up for Juneteenth.

Juneteenth marks the date — June 19, 1865 — o which the news of the Emancipation Proclamation freeing slaves got to Texas, and the celebration has since spread throughout the country. It is celebrated with festivals and parades in various U.S. cities.
