CHANDIGARH: The colonial Kalka-Shimla railway track, a Unesco World Heritage Site which suffered extensive damage in the devastating monsoon that hit Himachal Pradesh over the past month, will be opened in three phases, starting with the Kalka-Koti section on September 10.
It will be followed by the Koti-Solan section opening on September 20 and then the Solan-Shimla section opening by September 30, said Ambala divisional railway manager (DRM) Mandeep Singh Bhatia on Sunday. He, however, had a word of caution: the route would be restored only if there are no more damage caused by rain. “The natural disaster struck the heritage section in many parts and caused major destruction to tracks and railway stations,” he said. The DRM said heavy rain caused major landslides and maximum damage had been caused near Solan.
