Kolkata’s Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port achieved a milestone with “M V Mineral Yangfan”, a cape vessel reaching the Sagar anchorage to discharge almost 70,300 MT of coking coal on account of SAIL by a floating crane.
This largest dry bulker arrived at anchorage with the highest parcel load. It has an overall length (LOA) of 299.92 meters and a beam length of 50 meters.
“M V Mineral Yangfan” is the 18th cape vessel in the current fiscal year, while four cape vessels were tackled until August in the last fiscal year out of a total of 14 cape vessels, managed in 2021 as well as in 2022.
The Cape vessel is registered in Portugal. It has a draft of approximately 9.3 meters. The vessel’s load port was New Port, based in the US, and the last port of call was named Dhamra.
Haldia’s railway division collaborates with Marine Division to facilitate the fast evacuation of cargo from the port. This is now making Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) the best-preferred port of call. It is about s 80 miles from the SMP and 25 miles from HDC.
Following persuasion from the management of SMP, SAIL has agreed on bringing two cape vessels each month and has an idea to mobilize cargo of 1.5 MMT annually at anchorages.
Vinit Kumar, the Chairman of SMP, mentioned that M V Mineral Yangfan’s arrival is essential. It is not only the first-ever Cape vessel at Sagar. It is also because it has the capacity for transporting a cargo of 70,300 MT that otherwise would’ve been carried in two/three different vessels.
