Both Samsung and Lenovo have unveiled prototypes for screens that grow. Visually it looks like they’re stretching, but in fact they’re actually unrolling while the rear part of their housing slides outwards. LG, however, has come up with a screen that actually stretches, in the manner of rubber.
“Based on a highly resilient film-type substrate made of special silicon used in contact lenses, this 12-inch display boasts a rubber band-like flexibility that allows it to be stretched up to 14 inches. The display’s free-form nature offers a cutting-edge solution surpassing the existing foldable and rollable technology.”
LG Display says their Stretchable prototype is highly flexible, durable and reliable, as well as full-color RGB with a resolution of 100ppi. As for applications, the company says it would be “easily attachable to curved surfaces such as skin, clothing, furniture, automobiles and aircraft.”
