There’s plenty at stake for Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast Suns in a season-defining 11th v 12th twilight matchup.

The Power (6-7, 105.3%) have gotten their campaign back on track after a slow start and kept their finals hopes alive with a win over the Swans last week.

But they face a red-hot Suns (7-6) team that have won five of its last six games to be on track for its best ever season to also remain in the mix for a top eight berth.

There were no late changes for either side. Sam Mayes (Port Adelaide) and Brayden Fiorini (Gold Coast Suns) were the medical substitutes.

Port Adelaide’s pressure was up early and it led to several stumbles from the Suns.

An out-on-the-full kick led to a classy snap from the boundary line from Xavier Duursma for the Power’s first goal, while Kane Farrell made it two goals shortly after.

The Suns were once again left chasing in defence as Mitch Georgiades took an uncontested mark 15 metres out from goal and kicked the side’s third goal, with the Suns still scoreless.

Levi Casboult received a free kick in a forward 50 ruck contest and converted the set shot, kicking the Suns’ first goal of the day.

A brilliant finish from Lachie Jones in the forward half saw Port Adelaide move to five goals and then Jones set up another goal with a great kick to Todd Marshall.

That Marshall goal made it 26 points, but the Suns, as they have all year, showed plenty of resolve from then on.

A goal to Mabior Chol gave the Suns some momentum heading into quarter-time, at which point they trailled by 18 points.

The Suns began to dominate around the stoppages, with Jarrod Witts having clear superiority in the ruck.

Goals to Chol, Malcolm Rosas and Izak Rankine gave the Suns the lead for the first time of the afternoon.

Mitch Georgiades steadied things to regain the lead as both sides began to trade blows on the scoreboard.

A controversial moment came when a Kane Farrell kick was deemed goal by the goal umpire but was overturned on review in a decision that was contentious for the Port Adelaide faithful.

“We can’t be too critical of that technology, we have been asking for it for years that they can zoom in like that and have some clarity on it, then we’ve got to back it in,” Nick Dal Santo said of the review.

The score review system got a good workout in the first half, with two kicks from Mabior Chol showing spikes on the AFL’s Edge technology.

The match gets underway at 4:10pm EST from Adelaide Oval.
