  1. Can you elaborate upon your entrepreneurial journey, what motivated you to be an entrepreneur, and what are your key goals for Mangalam in the next five years?

I am a second-generation entrepreneur after my mother, Madhvi Bhandari who founded this venture. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering & Business and a Liberal Arts degree from Penn State University, USA, I have worked for a few years before beginning my entrepreneurial journey. I believe this path gives me the opportunity to utilise my technical expertise and transform my creative ideas into reality. At Mangalam, I head sales and marketing with a strong focus on identifying and developing new potential business opportunities. I envision a 10x growth for the company and expanding into Europe and the Canadian region in the next five years. I plan on exploring legal and healthcare segments to identify new opportunities and definitely grow in the IT indsutry. I strongly believe, customer-centricity to be the centrepiece of any business. At Mangalam, we believe in the customer-first approach, and in line with this core philosophy, we offer customised solutions tailored to the requirements of our clients. We are hiring aggressively as we are expanding at a rapid pace and will continue to do so in the near future.

  1. Mangalam has recently been accredited as a ‘Great Place to Work.’ Please let us know what steps you have taken to foster a great workplace.

At Mangalam, we have undertaken several initiatives to foster a conducive workplace culture and make every colleague an integral part of our family. At Mangalam, we focus on five dimensions of a high-performance culture- i) credibility, ii) fairness, iii) respect, iv) camaraderie and v) pride. Mangalam thrives on building a strong work culture and pride in its people and achieves this goal through inter-department employee engagement activities, an open-door policy, and other initiatives such as annual health checkups, anti-sexual harassment committee, rewards and recognition programs and a hybrid work environment. As part of employee engagement initiatives and in an endeavour to give back to society, we have created awareness about the Indian Army, health, environment and women empowerment through marathons and company events. Our workplace values veterans and we have taken numerous measures to help them join the workforce again.

  1. Are there any specific women-friendly measures in place? Please share details

At Mangalam, about 30% of our workforce comprises women. As part of our pathbreaking initiative, we have instituted an exclusive night shift WFH platform for women to provide opportunities to those with working constraints. I have also inspired my women colleagues in the organisation to become more self-reliant and take on more leadership roles in their professional and personal lives. We regularly conduct 1-1 sessions with women employees to encourage them to be more self-reliant and take on leadership roles in all aspects of their lives and not only at the workplace.

  1. What is your outlook on the Indian IT industry? Is the government doing enough to encourage the sector?

India is a sought-after destination for IT services due to its demographic dividend, the relative affordability of land and labour and conducive push by the government. Over the past few decades, the up-gradation of infrastructure, thrust by central and state governments and the emergence of new-age technologies have provided a fillip to the Indian IT industry. The role of the government has indeed been instrumental in giving a push to the sector. The onus is now on the stakeholders of the IT industry to sustain the growth momentum. Currently, the IT sector contributes around 9% to India’s GDP, which is bound to increase and fuel the dream of achieving a five trillion-dollar economy by 2025. But few issues need to be addressed urgently, such as bridging the skill gap, arresting the rising attrition rate and taking more initiatives to encourage women in leadership roles in the sector. The IT sector also requires specific guidelines to foster a hybrid work environment, organise more interactive sessions to build stronger teams and improve the happiness quotient at the workplace.

  1. What key trends do you foresee in the post-COVID world?

The pandemic has accelerated digitisation and increased the demand for IT services. Today, almost all businesses rely on robust IT infrastructure. Sectors such as healthcare, legal services, etc., have witnessed a steady growth, which, in turn, has spurred the demand in the BPO segment as well. At Mangalam, we are prepared to grow and match the pace of the market growth. The pandemic has also ushered in a hybrid model of work wherein technology will play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration among the remote workforce in scattered geographies. The IT landscape is rapidly evolving; the cut-throat competition implies that customer-centricity will be the key differentiator for IT firms. Moreover, agile firms that nurture innovation and invest in their employees will retain a competitive edge in the market. The rapidly evolving job landscape has also underscored the significance of upskilling and reskilling the workforce to remain relevant in the job market.

  1. Lastly, what would be your advice for aspiring women entrepreneurs?

Believe in yourself and let nothing deter you from achieving your dreams.
