Melbourne shaken by magnitude-2.4 earthquake in Port Phillip Bay

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is no threat of a tsunami after an earthquake struck Port Phillip Bay outside Melbourne early on Sunday. 

The magnitude-2.4 earthquake struck at 5:41am with an epicentre near Frankston.

Residents in Frankston, Langwarrin and Cranbourne reported feeling the effects of the earthquake.

As of 8:30am, Geoscience Australia had received 196 reports from residents.

There were no calls to VICSES and no damage has been reported.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed on Sunday morning there was no risk of a tsunami as a result of the earthquake.

The epicentre of the earthquake occurred at a depth of about 6 kilometres.
