Millions Affected By Loss of Homes, Death Of Livestock And Infrastructure Breakdown – The Friday Times

Death and Injured Toll

Between June 14, 2022 and August 31, the death toll has climbed to 1,191 246 women, 522 men and 399 children have lost their lives to the floods across the country.

The highest number of deaths is in Sindh at 422, followed by 264 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP); 253 in Balochistan; 188 in Punjab; and 22 in Gilgit Baltistan (GB). About 41 deaths have been reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and one in Islamabad.

Between 1pm on August 30 and 2pm of August 31, 27 people lost their lives, of which 15 were from Sindh, 7 from KP, 4 from Balochistan and one from Punjab. Of the total deaths in these 24 hours, seven children died in Kashmore and one in Mirpurkhas, Sindh.

Two men and one woman died due to roof collapse in Sanghar, one man drowned in Sanghar’s stagnant water, and another in the Indus River, Dadu. Five men died of flash flooding in Upper Dir, two men died due to roof-collapse in South Waziristan and Dera Ismail Khan respectively. Death of one man was reported from Layyah. Of the 87 injured flood affectees, 54 were in Balochistan — 21 women, 27 men and 6 children. 

Damage To Infrastructure And Private Properties

Between afternoons of June 14 and August 31, 2022, as many as 1,106,360 houses were damaged across Pakistan – among them 372,823 were fully damaged. Some 923,945 are damaged in Sindh, 72,961 in KP, 46,320 in Punjab, 61,718 in Balochistan, 935 in GB and 481 in AJK.

In the 24 hours between August 30 and Aug 31, 2022, 45,310 houses were documented to be fully damaged in Sindh, and 3,124 in KP. The number of partially damaged houses in KP was recorded to be 17,981.

Also, 243 bridges and 5,063 kilometres of roads have been damaged across the country in the recent floods and.

Loss Of Livestock

Livestock is included in the private property category. The total number of lost livestock across the country is 731,818 of which (tentatively) 500,000 livestock were lost in Balochistan; 205,104 in Punjab, 16,513 in Sindh, 9,411 in KP and 790 in AJK.

Calamity Hit Districts And Population

Between June 14 and August 31, 2022, 33,046,329 Pakistanis have been affected by floods and heavy rains. In Sindh, the affected population is 14,563,770, of which 383,724 are either in government or NDMA relief camps. The data does not have a number for the rescued population of Sindh.

About 9,182,616 people are affected in Balochistan, of which 7,000 are in camps. The number of rescued people is 600.

Of the 4,350,490 residents affected in KP, 61,534 are in shelter camps, and 45,362 were rescued.

In Punjab, 484,4253 are affected, 15,592 are in camps, and 71,935 have been rescued.

In GB, 51,500 people are affected, 50 are rescued and 180 are in camps.

In AJK, 53,700 are affected, 300 rescued and none in camps.

Of 80 districts notified to be calamity hit – 31 are in Balochistan, 23 in Sindh, 17 in KP, 6 in GB and 3 in Punjab.
