Monday marks week-long celebration of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

Every year during the second week of April, the telecommunications personnel, more commonly known as dispatchers, are honored.

This week-long recognition begins Monday and was initially set up in 1981 by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office in California. The intent is to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public. It is a week that should be set aside so everyone can be made aware of their hard work and dedication.

National Public Safety Telecommunications Week stated on its website:

We encourage all of you to celebrate and honor yourselves, your co-workers, your bosses and your employees.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office posted on Twitter its gratitude for dispatchers. The post stated:

These patient, compassionate, multi-tasking and detail-oriented individuals are rarely seen, often heard, and always there for first responders and the public.

We’re truly grateful for them and for their public safety talents and contributions.

Other ideas to honor dispatchers include:

• Host a party.
• Shower them with gifts.
