Many grocery stores, drug stores, malls and major retail chains have special holiday hours for New Year’s Eve (12/31/22) and New Year’s Day (1/1/23). Here is a list of hours for our local stores including some that are closed all day on January 1, 2023.
Store hours may vary within the same chain. Your best bet is to call ahead or check their website to verify the store hours for your closest location. The hours listed below are valid for most locations in the Raleigh, NC area according to the store websites.

Grocery Store Hours
Aldi: Open until 7 pm on New Year’s Eve and closed all day on New Year’s Day
BJ’s: Most are locations are open from 8 am until 7 pm on New Year’s Eve and are open from 9 am – 7 pm on New Year’s Day.
Carlie C’s: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Costco: Open 8:30am – 6:00pm on New Year’s Eve at most locations and closed on New Year’s Day
Dollar General: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Food Lion: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Harris Teeter: Stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. All pharmacies will be closed on Jan. 1, 2023 and may close early on Dec. 31. Check the website for your store for hours.
Lidl: Most locations are open until 7 pm on New Year’s Eve and are closed all day on New Year’s Day
Lowes Foods: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
Publix: Open until 9 pm on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at most locations. On New Year’s Day, all Publix pharmacies are closed.
Sam’s Club: Open until 6 pm on New Year’s Eve at most locations and closed on New Year’s Day
Sprouts: Open New Year’s Eve until 8 pm at most locations and open regular hours on New Year’s Day
Target: Most stores are open until 9 pm on New Year’s Eve and are open regular hours on New Year’s Day
The Fresh Market: Open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day until 8 pm at most locations
Trader Joe’s: Open until 5 pm on New Year’s Eve and closed all day on New Year’s Day

CVS: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Pharmacy hours will vary. Check the CVS website for the specific hours for your location.
Walgreens: Most stores are open regular hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Many Walgreens pharmacies are closing early on New Year’s Eve at 5 pm and are closed all day on New Year’s Day. Check the Walgreens website for the hours for your specific location.
