THE Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has secured 88 future business events that are expected to attract 104,834 delegates and contribute an estimated economic impact of RM1.47 billion from 2023-2030.

This year, MyCEB along with the industry stakeholders are, at least for now, ready to stage 35 business event activities, anticipating to welcome over 40,000 local and international delegates, thus translating into RM390 million in estimated economic impact.

“Last year, MyCEB managed to stage 152 business events, bringing in a cumulative total of 402,320 delegates to the country, out of whom 92,000 were international. The economic impact generated amounted to RM1.23 billion, an upturn indicating that the business event industry is picking up pace for recovery,” MyCEB said in a statement today.

CEO Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Khani Daud said MyCEB together with the industry professionals are cautiously optimistic to plan qualifying events and adapt to lingering uncertainties.

“The solid pipeline of events that Malaysia has managed to anchor in 2022 and beyond reflects the event organisers’ unwavering confidence in the country’s fundamentals, highlighted by its vibrant business culture, excellent infrastructure, stable government and stellar track record in hosting high-quality events,” he said.

MyCEB said it is seeing strong bookings for business event activities in 2023 which has witnessed a major boost for its enhanced incentive programme for international business events groups.

Riding on that momentum, MyCEB said it will continue to emphasise on five main segments in the business event industry namely, meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions (MICE) and international sporting events.

To strengthen the five segments of core focus, MyCEB said it is in the national bureau’s framework to reappoint its representatives for the China, India, South Korea and Asean market to explore global opportunities in business events and add value to business interactions.

Abdul Khani said MyCEB will also continue to offer various assistance schemes to attract business events to Malaysia, and moving forward, it aims to map Malaysia’s return to pre-pandemic levels within one to two years for business activities with in-person attendance.

“Business events will be at the height of the competition and we are happy to share that Malaysia is gunning for prominent international shows for it is our aim to bring home the next world expo and equivalent business events,” he said. — TMR
