NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (NMSCDCL) has so far completed the development work of 92 of the total 171 major and minor roads in the city.

NMSCDCL is developing 171 major and minor roads in old city areas at a total cost of Rs 237.2 crore. The total length of these road projects is 36 kilometres.

The project includes the construction of footpaths, utility conduits, water lines, storm water lines, street furniture, traffic signage, street landscaping works, junction improvement, and the creation of smart bus stops.

So far, the development of 22 kilometres of major and minor roads has been completed by the smart city corporation. The remaining roads, with a total length of 14 kilometres, will be completed by the end of the current calendar year.

We had planned to complete all the roads by June this year but could not do so. An extension has been given by the board of directors of the NMSCDCL to complete all the major and minor roads by the end of December this year, said Sumant More, CEO, NMSCDCL.

So far, we have completed over 50 percent of the total work, while the remaining is in progress, More added.

The CEO of the Smart City Corporation further said that most of the roads that are to be developed are in gaothan areas where there are old wadas.

“As of now, we are unable to use excavators as it may damage the wadas. Hence, we are carrying out all the work manually. This has caused some delay to the road project”, he added.

The project aims to upgrade the overall civic infrastructure of the city. It also entails the improvement of selected existing roads in the Gaothan area.
