HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The Nebraska State Fly In and Airshow is in Hastings this weekend and there are tons of vintage aircrafts from America’s past.

The airplanes came flying in at the Hastings Municipal Airport on Saturday. Taylor Lukas came with his family and was mesmerized by one of the planes.

“When it landed it was very windy and I like how the wings just folded up on themselves, that was really cool I didn’t expect it,” Lukas told Local4 News.

People didn’t know when they would fly in but it added to the suspense.

“I love it so far. I’m having a lot of fun,” Lukas said.

These aren’t just any old airplanes. They are antique relics from the past including a couple of military helicopters and a WWII B-29 bomber.

“There’s a plane that came in that was built in 1932, you know, all the way up from the sixties or whatever they want to consider antique but just a lot of neat history of how the aviation industry has progressed,” said Hastings Airport Association President Brent Hoops.

Todd Harders from Carroll brought two of his vintage airplanes to the event.

“These are antiques and classics like this one here is a Piper Cub, it’s a 1945. It’s been in my family for 45 years. My Waco here is a 1937,” Harders told Local4 News.

He tries to bring them out to shows whenever he can to share his love of planes.

“People don’t get to see these because most of them are stuck in a hanger somewhere where people can’t get to them or never see them,” Harders said.

This is the first time the Nebraska State Fly In and Airshow has been to Hastings in years. There were dozens of people who came out to admire the craftsmanship of these old planes.

“I can see there’s a lot of craft going into them and that everybody still maintains them which is really a blessing really, just to see all from where we were to where we are now and aircraft design and stuff, it’s really cool to see,” Lukas said.

The airshow is having an even bigger day on Sunday with more planes and tons of activities for kids starting at 7:30 a.m. Here is the schedule of events.
