Joshimath subsidence: Supreme Court to hear plea today
- The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear during the day a plea seeking the court’s intervention to declare the crisis in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath as a national disaster.
- According to the cause list of January 16 uploaded on the apex court website, a bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala would hear the petition filed by Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.
- Joshimath, the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib and international skiing destination Auli, is facing a major challenge due to land subsidence.

Saudi inflation hits 3.3% in December, highest in 18 months
Inflation in Saudi Arabia rose at its fastest pace in 18 months, driven by mounting costs for housing, energy and food. The consumer price index climbed an annual 3.3% in December, according to the Saudi General Authority for Statistics. It came after a survey of purchasing managers compiled by S&P Global showed local firms were being forced to raise prices to pass their increased expenses on to customers.
