Anker targeted a pet peeve of some iMac users Friday when it introduced a USB-C hub that puts useful ports on the front of the machine. The desktop’s own hubs are on the back, which not everybody likes.

The company designed the new 535 model, a 5-in-1 USB-C hub made of metal, specifically for the 24-inch M1 iMac, though it also works with other iMacs.

And you can get it at a launch discount. See below.

Anker 535 USB-C Hub, designed for M1 iMac

The new Anker 535 USB-C Hub sports a 5-in-1 port array, a metal build and just one color, silver. Unlike many of the company’s hubs, it’s designed for one machine. It put ports on the front of the 24-inch M1 iMac.

But it will work other iMacs, such as the 27-inch model with an Intel chip. And it’s possible future Apple computers with similar form factors will also accommodate it.

The hub’s adjustable mounting design clamps to the bottom of your Mac. The hub’s cable plugs into your iMac’s Thunderbolt port on the back of the machine.

The USB-C and USB-A ports are rated for a 10GB/s transfer speed.

Regarding the 535’s ports, you get a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port with support for 10GB-per-second throughput rates and 7.5W charging. To the left of that, you have two USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 ports, which feature the same 10GB/s rating. SD and microSD card slots with 312MB/s speed for photo transfer round out the offering.

Note that some similar hubs from Satechi and Hyper top out at a 5GB/s transfer speed. So Anker’s new one has an advantage.

The Anker 535 USB-C Hub is available at a launch discount for a short time, marked down from $59.99 to $53.99.
