With nominations underway for the 2022 Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards and with entries closing on 8 October, there is still time for those professionally involved in the British historic motoring scene to have their say in the club’s annual honors. For outstanding achievements in this field. ,
Input from the general public is also important, so classic car and motorcycle enthusiasts and fans of historic motorsports are also invited to submit nominations.
Candidates may nominate themselves or nominate a third party who they think is worthy of recognition. The Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards are free of charge and nominations are made through a simple online form at www.royalautomobileclub historyawards.co.uk.
Club President Ben Cussons said: “This is the fourth year of the awards, and we are pleased with the quality of nominations we have received since the 2022 submissions opened.
We look forward to building on the solid foundation already laid over the years. , with nominees of an exceptionally high potential and outstanding winners. The awards evening on 24th November at our Pal Mall Clubhouse once again promises to be a tremendous celebration of creativity, skill, ingenuity, enthusiasm and experience.”
The eligibility period is from October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022 and enrollment is closed on October 8.
Nominations are invited in the following categories:
Collections: Recognition of achievements within the eligibility period of large and small museums or privately owned collections.
Competitive Event – Has a broad mandate covering everything from race meetings and stage rallies to hill climbs, sleekness tests, race series and even individual races.
Innovation: Created to reward initiative and creativity in developing new products and services.
Motorsports Show – for classic motorsports events of all sizes, without elements of timed competition. Eligible events include pageants of elegance, tours, club meetings and classic vehicle shows.
Outstanding Journalism – For Best Print, Digital or Broadcast Feature.
Personality: A celebration of individual achievement in the historical world of motoring or motorsports.
Restoration: Recognizing outstanding skill, research and sensitivity to the history of a vehicle that performs world-class restoration.
The Young Achiever: For rising stars aged 18-30 who are the future of Britain’s historic motor industry.
A key element of the awards is the independent, rigorous and expert evaluation process. Each category is judged by a carefully selected expert jury with a high level of relevant experience.
At awards night on Thursday 24 November, the club will also present the Royal Automobile Club’s Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of an individual who has made a significant contribution to motoring and/or the legacy of British motoring over the years.
Last year’s winner was John Grant, president of the British Racing Drivers’ Club.
The award is a continuation of the club’s 125-year lineage in recognition of automotive achievement.
Today the club presents a number of internationally recognized accolades, including the Segrave Trophy, the Torrance Trophy, the Sims Medal, the Dewar Trophy and motoring’s oldest trophy – the Tourist Trophy.
