One road per zone per week: MCD claims work completed at 24 places | Delhi News

New Delhi: Over two weeks after the launch of the “one road per zone per week” initiative of Delhi government and lieutenant governor VK Saxena for the repair, maintenance and upkeep of roads, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) claims to have completed work at 24 places.
The details have been posted on the Delhi government website along with photographs of before and after the work was carried out. “After the initiative was launched on July 9, we prepared a list of 96 sites in 12 zones where work would be undertaken for eight weeks (July 11-September 3). A consolidated report was later sent to the chief secretary,” said an official.
All zonal offices have been directed to coordinate with the departments concerned, including engineering, electrical and horticulture, to get the work done on time.
“The activities taken up include repair, maintenance, improvement works, such as potholes, damaged footpaths, central verge, green cover, road painting, reflectors, streetlights, street furniture and cleanliness of roads by removing garbage, C&D waste, etc,” MCD stated in a letter to the chief secretary.
The roads where work has been completed include the internal road of GK-II M-Block market, internal road of Hauz Khas market, Defence Colony roundabout, Bhairon Mandir to police booth Kalkaji, Road no. 78 back lane (Punjabi Bagh), Chandralok Vihar (road facing Saint Columba Public School), Ku-hu Road in Pitampura, Rani Jhansi Road (Pulbangash to Azad Market Chowk, Yamuna Marg (near Ludlow Castle School), C-Block road in Sector 8 Rohini, Patparganj Road to Pusta Road, Tanga Road to Shamsan Ghat Geeta Colony.
At Defence Colony, the roundabout was painted, 13 streetlights and one high-mast light repaired, pruning work carried out in 18 parks, manhole covers replaced, and C&D waste was removed. At Geeta Colony, MCD carried out patchwork on Raja Ram Kohli Marg, in addition to painting the grilles on the central verge, footpath, bus stop, etc.
Residents, however, have demanded a complete overhaul at some places. “At the exit of GK-II market, where the road is merging with the main road, the situation is still bad. Many roads within the colony also require repairs,” said a resident of GK-II.
