Partners Group Holding AG is investing up to $1.2 billion to acquire Colorado-based data center platform EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure in a move to cash in on the rise of cloud computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence and 5G technologies.

The private markets firm said Friday that the investment also includes the build-out of future data center sites. EdgeCore builds and commercializes data centers for cloud, internet, and technology companies.

“EdgeCore has strong infrastructure characteristics and is set to benefit from structural tailwinds across the data center sector. Businesses are increasingly shifting IT infrastructure to scaled outsourced cloud service provider data centers, which have more efficient power and cooling capabilities,” Fentress Boyse, management member for private infrastructure in the Americas at Partners Group, said.
