STOCKHOLM–Peab AB said Tuesday that it has entered a partnership with steelmaker SSAB AB to access the latter’s fossil free steel for construction projects from 2026.
The Swedish construction firm said the deal will also see the companies analyze various future possibilities for how fossil free steel can reduce the climate footprint of the construction industry.
SSAB’s fossil free steel making technology uses hydrogen and fossil free electricity instead of coal and other fossil fuels traditionally used in steel production. It plans to produce fossil free steel on a commercial scale in 2026.
