PM inaugurates airport projects worth Rs 9,811 crore, ET Infra

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday virtually inaugurated airport projects worth Rs. 9,811 crore, including expanded Terminal 1 of Delhi International Airport, terminal buildings of Gwalior’s Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport and the newly constructed Terminal 3 of Lucknow International Airport.

The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated new terminal buildings at airports in Azamgarh, Shravasti, Moradabad, Chitrakoot, Aligarh, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Lucknow, Pune, Kolhapur, Delhi, and Adampur. The Prime Minister also laid foundation stones for new terminal buildings at airports in Kadapa, Belagavi, and Hubli.

“Among them, the new terminal buildings of Gwalior, Jabalpur, Kolhapur, Pune and Lucknow airports are living examples of the Prime Minister’s unique vision of ‘Development also, heritage also,” said Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiradtya Scindia.

“These new terminal buildings will develop regional prosperity and also make the world aware of their rich heritage,” Scindia added.

The expanded integrated Terminal 1 of Delhi International Airport will increase the overall capacity of the airport to 100 million passengers per annum, the highest amongst the country’s airports.

Terminal 3 of Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport will cater to domestic and international flights, with capacity to handle 4,000 passengers during peak hours.

According to operator Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, Phase I of Terminal 3 of the airport can cater to 8 million passengers per annum, while Phase 2 will enhance the handling capacity to 13 million passengers per annum.

“The master plan for CCSIA (Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport) foresees exponential growth, with passenger traffic expected to soar to 38 million per annum by 2049. This growth trajectory not only positions CCSIA as a key player in India’s aviation landscape but also catalyzes economic development across the state, creating thousands of job opportunities and driving prosperity.” said Karan Adani, Managing Director, Adani Ports & Special
