Nidhin Haridas, general manager of Le Dupleix and The Promenade in Puducherry feels that his destination has great potential for MICE as well.

Puducherry, the capital city of the UT of Puducherry has always been a major tourist attraction with its unique blend of Tamil and French culture. ET HospitalityWorld spoke with Nidhin Haridas, the general manager who oversees two properties in the city—both owned by founder of Hidesign, Dilip Kapur—The Promenade and Le Dupleix, which are managed by Sarovar Hotels.

The city is a popular weekend getaway for people from Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, Haridas said, adding that his two charges are completely different—while the 13-room Le Dupleix is a heritage hotel in the heart of ‘white town’, The Promenade is a modern property with what he termed ‘happening and celebratory vibes’ with multiple restaurants and 38 rooms.

“Le Dupleix also was the birthplace of Hidesign, Dilip Kapur started the brand from this very building. The moment you enter the property through one of the oldest doors in Puducherry, you will find a calmness and sense of leisurely intimacy about the place. This place is a treasure which needs to be explored by tourists. There are 13 rooms and no two rooms that are similar,” he said.

“As travel restrictions were eased, we saw a rise in tourists visiting us. I believe that after the long months of lockdown and despair, all of us were looking forward to a getaway. The increase in daily flights from Bengaluru and Hyderabad greatly boosted business. More flights from Mumbai and Delhi, will surely improve the business. Our employees got vaccinated and were prepared to face all the fears of pandemic. They have been our strength and contributed a lot to this bounce back,” Haridas said about business returning to his city.

Puducherry was driven by the leisure crowds, like every holiday destination. However, they would like to organise corporate meets or tours in the future. The Promenade was hosting the Hidesign Annual Meet in the month of July, and Haridas is eager to host similar events in future.

In the immediate future, he said, “Hidesign Hotels is all set to reach another height by the end of this year. The Story Tellers Bar plans to bring some bright talents from across the globe and get more creative with their offerings. We are planning to organise food and bar pop ups every single month in the hotel. Dilip Kapur envisions making these properties the most high end lifestyle hotels of the coastal city.”

“For me, I wish to make this place a pioneer in the latest global food and bar trends in India. We look forward to offering an exclusive experience to all our customers where people do come to Pondicherry to visit The Promenade,” Haridas concluded.
