MYSURU: Efforts to enhance connectivity between Mysuru and Bengaluru and Bengaluru and Hassan have received a boost as the railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has revealed plans for infrastructure expansion.

In response to an question from BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya in the Rajya Sabha, the minister disclosed that Final Location Surveys (FLSs) have been approved for the doubling between Chikbanavar and Hassan (180km) and quadrupling between Bengaluru and Mysuru (135km).

In his reply, the minister stated that these two projects are part of 742km commuter railway project designed to meet the demand of commuters from satellite towns.

Manjunath Kanamadi, chief public relations officer of Mysuru division, said the FLSs of these lines started.

Siroya stated that all these projects will be the game changer and further develop the entire region. It will benefit all those who commute to Bengaluru from nearby cities and towns, he said.

According to the regular commuters, if the trains can cover the distance between Mysuru-Bengaluru within one-and-half-hours, it will definitely enable them to travel between these two cities instead of staying back in Bengaluru. They urged the central and state governments to work in coordination to implement the project at the earliest.

S Yogendra of Mysuru Railway Commuters Forum said currently Bengaluru-Hassan has a single line. The idea of quadrupling and doubling lines is good. But at the same time related infrastructures like platforms should be increased. There should not be any bottlenecks which stops the passengers from getting full benefit of the expenditure, he said.
